Jambo! My name is Shalom Sabwa. I am a sophomore, Public
Health Science undergrad at the University of Maryland. I was born in Nairobi,
Kenya, and moved to the United States when I was around 7 years old. I now live
in a small town called Clarksburg in Montgomery County. I love traveling, it
has always been a big part of my life (I’ve been to over 12 countries and
counting), but I was super excited to come to Chicago because I have never been
in the mid-west. I chose this Alternative Break experience because homeless is
a major issue that is never given enough attention, and I wanted to learn more
about it.
